William Ruto Promises To Build Huge Dam For Tharaka Nithi Residents: "Tutaweka KSh 20 Billion"

Deputy President William Ruto promised to construct a giant dam for Tharaka Nithi residents if elected president through the General Election on August 9, 2022.

The second command said that the dam's construction would be implemented within one year into office as the head of state.

"I understand that when I came here with President Uhuru Kenyatta we promised to build a huge dam but that did not happen. I want to tell you that within one year of my government, we shall set aside KSh 20 billion for the construction of that dam," Ruto said.

Ruto, who spoke on Saturday, February 19, during a Kenya Kwanza rally at Kathwana, Tharaka Nithi county, said the dam would provide water across the county.

"We know that we have fertile farms in Tharaka Nithi but all you residents lack is water. We are through with the paperwork, and all remaining is the awarding of the contract so that the construction can kick off," Ruto told his supporters.

"This will be our priority as we tap into the potential of agriculture to ensure food security and grow our economy," he explained. He observed that the construction and rehabilitation of dams such as Thuci, Kamumu and Thabana in Embu county would enhance food production, increase farmers’ earnings and tackle poverty in our country.

Ruto seeking to succeed his boss, Uhuru, lauded the ruling Jubilee administration for transforming the healthcare sector in the county and beyond.

"Previously, residents of Tharaka Nithi used to seek specialised treatment at the Kenya National Hospital in Nairobi but after the government invested KSh 500 million at the Chuka County Referral Hospital, the provision of healthcare services has gradually improved," Ruto said.

Earlier in the company of his Kenya Kwanza campaign partners, Musalia Mudavadi (Amani National Congress) and Moses Wetang'ula (Ford Kenya), Ruto shared their Uchumi Kwanza agenda with the people of Kirie in Mbeere North and Kigumo Market in Runyenjes, Embu county.

On Friday, February 18, Ruto decried contempt and harassment meted out on his allies in the second term of the Jubilee government."We have joined forces as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), ANC, and Ford Kenya not because of selfish political interests but because we have an agenda, plan and appropriate policies for this country. Our main agenda is how we shall prioritise employment for the Kenyan youths," Ruto explained.

Ruto said the Uhuru-led administration joined forces with the opposition to disgrace the bonafide members of the ruling party who worked to form the government.

While juxtaposing Jubilee's second term and it's first in 2013, Ruto noted the status quo changed to the disadvantage of his allies and Kenyans who voted for the government.

He further registered his displeasure at the government, which he said had neglected the citizenry in the northern parts of the country where intertribal clashes have been the order of the day.
